Sr. Linux LAN Engineer - NEXRAD

Exciting career opportunity for a Sr. Linux LAN Engineer/Administrator to join Centuria’s team of 55 scientists, meteorologists, engineers and IT experts to provide infrastructure engineering design, development, implementation, production, installation, and integration support to the National Weather Service (NWS) Next Generation Radar (NEXRAD) Radar Operations Center (ROC) in support of nearly 200 Doppler weather radars and wind profiler radars that provide critical tornado and severe weather warning observations across the Continental U.S., Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, Guam, the Azores, and Korea. The team is involved in every phase of the hardware and software lifecycle across business and technical applications. They also provide facility support, program management, and quality assurance. This contract involves customer touch points within NWS, Department of Transportation, and the Air Force.

This position supports the Configuration Management Team in the Program Branch at the National Weather Service (NWS) Next Generation Radar (NEXRAD) Radar Operations Center (ROC)  in Norman, Oklahoma.


  • Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science is preferred.  Engineering degree is acceptable.  
  • 5+ years’ experience experience as an administrator of large Linux  (Redhat  preferred) LANs is required.
  • 5+ years’  experience programming in Perl and Linux shell is required.
  • Experience with DNS, LDAP, Apache Web and large file server installations and maintenance is required.
  • Experience with DNS, NFS (v2/3/4), LDAP, Samba and NIS+ is required.
  • Experience planning and implementing a 24/7 onsite and offsite backup system using Amanda, or similar backup facility, is required.
  • Experience with software installation, updates and patch management for large LAN installations using YUM and other Linux support tools is required.
  • Experience developing and packaging Linux RPM’s not provided by standard vendor  operating systems is required.
  • Experience with Linux workstation provisioning and imaging using kickstart and iPXE is required.
  • Experience in identifying system requirements, performing market research and implementing replacement hardware to refresh network, server and workstation technology, as necessary, is required.
  • Experience applying industry standard security and access controls using Linux auditing, firewalls, encryption, port scanning and other methods is required.
  • Familiarity with NOAA security and access controls  including  Nessus scanning  and CACs (Common Access Card) is preferred.
  • Experience with source software repository maintenance experience using git or similar tools is preferred.
  • Experience in OpenLDAP authentication system management administration is preferred.
