Electronics Installation Technician I - NOAA/NWS

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), National Weather Service (NWS) operates the NOAA Weather Radio (NWR) All Hazard Network to provide continuous transmissions of recorded and live weather and appropriate hazard warning information to the public. A NWR system consists of an audio control console located in a Government Weather Service Office, a transmitter system, including antenna and transmission line, located at a remote site (often collocated with and hosted by a commercial or educational TV/radio transmitter and tower) and a communication link (telephone line, microwave link, Ultra High Frequency (UHF) link, or a combination of these) between the two locations. The "Statement of Work" within this document, pertains to the transmitter system portion of the NWR network only. Systems are installed within the United States and its possessions.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), National Weather Service (NWS) operates the NOAA Weather Radio (NWR) All Hazard Network to provide continuous transmissions of recorded and live weather and appropriate hazard warning information to the public. NWWS is a satellite and internet based service to deliver weather and all-hazards text product messages to subscribers representing Government, media outlets, emergency managers, and others for redistribution to the general public. The NWWS network broadcasts weather forecasts, watches, warnings, and all-hazards information 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.

Positions are located in Alabama, Arkansas, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, North Carolina, New Jersey, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, West Virginia and Washington DC.

Job Duties:

  • Apply advanced technical knowledge to solve unusually complex problems that typically cannot be solved solely by referencing manufacturers' manuals or similar documents. Examples of such problems include determining the location and density of circuitry, evaluating electromagnetic radiation, isolating malfunctions, and incorporating engineering changes.
  • Must have detailed understanding of the interrelationships of circuits.
  • Must be able to exercise independent judgment in performing such tasks as making circuit analyses, calculating wave forms, and tracing relationships in signal flow.
  • Must be able to use complex test instruments such as high frequency pulse generators, frequency synthesizers, distortion analyzers, and complex computer control equipment.
  • May provide technical guidance to lower level technicians.

Required Education/Experience:

  • Requires a AS degree. in an associated discipline (or equivalent).  
  • Minimum 1-2 years of related experience.
